Dead Dog in a Suitcase
A corrupt society, seen as if in a circus funhouse mirror.

An experimental project with director Jennifer Lane Baker, conceived for The Maria, London (proposed). The play is Kneehigh's Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs) by Carl Grose, a new version of John Gay's The Beggar's Opera. I designed the set and costumes. With humour and wit, it exposes social and political corruption, the darkness at society's margins and the two faces of human nature.
Concept
In this decaying society, steeped in money and desire, hierarchy and exploitation ruthlessly destroy loyalty and kindness, and trust between people is coldly betrayed and trampled. Watching it should feel like looking into the distorting mirrors of a circus.
